Cutting agates

Does anyone have any tips for cutting stones. I cut beach agates into thin slices but have the hardest time cutting a straight line or even getting the cuts a consistent 3 mm thick. I use water coolant with a plastic shield so I often can see very well because of the splash. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have an 8 inch saw with a very thin curfed (sp) blade.
