[AT&T] Went in to fix some iPhone payments and the worker tried to hook me up with a student discount. She made me put in my student email and it seemed like it went through. Has anyone else here done this? Is this new? What an I expect to save? Are there any negative angles to this?
Also will it add 2 years to my contract? Will it equal to 4 years because I just got an iPhone 6s? I read somewhere online that it adds 2 years to my contract. Is it true?

I recently started a new Next contract with AT&T so that I could purchase the iPhone 6S. I wanted to ditch Verizon because it was too expensive so I googled 'AT&T Student Discounts' and came upon this site.
I typed in my email address for school and I was eligible for a 17% discount. It's legit, and I also had my activation fee waived. I signed up for the Next contract that lets me upgrade every year.
I am not sure whether or not it would extend contracts for current customers but I don't see why it would. You could contact AT&T online chat to find out!
Thank you so much you are right. Glad to hear that the discount works for you!
This was my experience also. I got a 17% student discount from my university, even though I was an alumni and not a current student. The local AT&T store offered it to me when I was in there paying a bill in cash, I didn't have to activate through a university .edu email address or anything. I got it a long time ago, and it did not affect my contract duration (I get 2 year contracts since that is the only way to preserve my original iPhone unlimited data plan). They waived my activation fee on my new iPhone 6s preorder.
