India looking to add 11000 MW of solar capacity increase in 2016-17

For reference, their total capacity in 2015 for all sources was about 279000 MW
That's a pretty big increase then. Adding about 4% of the existing grid in one year. Good job India.
then 11000 is not even THAT much.
(11/279)x100= 4%
I mean, adding 4% of your nation's grid capacity worth of solar is not a solution, but it is certainly a step.
sure but there are other nations making bigger steps, so if you put it into perspective 4% is not that exceptional, thats what i meant.
You know US has 22700 MW of solar power,
Still something though
Considering that high-end coal power plants can generate anwhere from 500-2000 MW. This much solar power replaces like 10 coal power plants.
But while 21.3% of their population is still without electricity, I hope they're not attempting to replace coal plants.

They aren't.
I dont doubt that, all i wanted to say is that i wish there would be more progress than a 4% increase.
It's like four percent every year or two. It won't stop there, a 100 GW plan has been recently announced.
India is going to need it to power the needs of 1 billion plus people. Good on them for thinking about future energy needs.
That is 9.090909 of the unit you're thinking about.
GREAT SCOTT YOURE RIGHT

Why does every positive news article about India have someone talking about toilets or rape? You do realize that a country can work on tackling more than one problem at once, right?
Or is your education system that deficient?
EDIT: Maybe it's just you
Welcome to Worldnews, where people who aren't white are horrible uncivilized monsters.

No, considering no one takes a street on the street. That figure comes from the majority rural areas where people don't have toilets, they shit in the FIELDS. In towns and cities, no one takes a shit on the streets, and if you do, you would probably be spat at and shamed. Though yeah, the public toilets that they use instead aren't a much better option.

That's funny because Indians think the western way of wiping your ass is disgusting and unhygienic. To them, you are all untrained children who can't keep their asses clean and walk around with swamp ass/mudbutt since instead of actually washing your ass, you smear poop around with paper and don't actually completely clean yourselves. Whereas they rinse with water completely. Funny thing perspective is.

Hopefully they fix their ridiculous labor laws soon too.
Edit: Jesus people do the research. 100+ employee companies must have gov't approval (which is rarely granted) to fire employees. 90% of employment in India is informal, essentially unregulated and untaxed. Modi's been going very hard trying to reform the laws so Indians aren't suffering in the informal and unregulated sector.
Any laws in particular that you're referring to?
One in particular where government approval is required to fire any workers at a company hiring over 100 people. Approval is rarely granted. Industrial Disputes Act of 1947.
Not to mention 90% of their economy is informal. Essentially untaxed and unregulated. India is a massive economy based in the informal. So many inspectors with too much power and labor laws conflicting with each other that most either just skirt them or operate informally. Most manufacturing is done by firms of under 50 employees.
Modi has been going hard lately trying to pass reform. Their labor laws as of now hurt their people greatly since most employment is informal. Not to mention 49% work in agriculture.
Edited, year off lmao
Now if only India would free all those slaves they have.
Muslims? They're free to leave whenever they want.

May I ask why?
Just take a look at his profile.
Okay, that explains.
Wumaos on this board constantly bash and smear India, for obvious reasons.

A note has been added to your profile that you called a user a "shill." This is against [the rules] (http://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/wiki/rules#wiki_disallowed_comments) of the sub. Please remain civil. Further infractions may result in a ban. Thanks.
Honest question: why do you remove a comment calling someone a "shill" for lack of civility, but you allow people to spam horribly offensive content all over this thread? Isn't this the definition of a double standard?
It's your sub and you make the rules, so I'll do as you say.
But apparently he was ashamed enough of his reply that he deleted it. Or it was abusive enough that the mods deleted it. I don't believe I was wrong in my opinion, but like I said, I'll follow your rules anyway.
11 GW
Although technically correct, generator output is pretty much always expressed in MW
It make sense when you talking about a single plant. For an entire country, GW makes more sense.
Electrical engineer here. It's still MW.
Then let's use scientific notation.
