Now, everyone stop bathing to get that authentic Dark Ages aroma.
What we're reading this week:
- A merchant ship weathers a terrible storm and sinks. The ship's misfortune is blamed on Covenant, one of its passengers. Years later, twelve year old Maeve is playing near a stream when the water turns red. She finds that all her town's men have been slaughtered. Seeing the carnage, a voice tells her to avenge the men's deaths. She assembles an army of children, and must find the man who will champion her cause. Her search leads her to Spawn, shackled in a cave. Maeve tells him God will trade his help for forgiveness. But when Spawn sees the army he has been asked to lead, he is incredulous.
Issue 11 - The Ghost on the Hill
- Covenant worries that the children will not be able to hold-up in the heat of battle, but Maeve has confidence in her warriors. The army encounters a group of knights who block their passage. Although the children's army suffers some loss, they are victorious in their first skirmish. The next day, Maeve awakens to find that a hundred new children have come to join the crusade. Covenant is surprised by the volunteers, but is unable to shake the feeling that the group is being watched. Cogliostro has been shadowing the army since the beginning.
- Cogliostro returns to his pagan horde, where prisoners are being tortured and killed. Covenant expresses doubts about the army under his command, but Maeve tells the children that any who wish to leave may do so. All decide to follow despite Covenant's warnings. As they march on, they come across the remains of the prisoners that Cogliostro's men have killed. Suddenly, several of the pagan warriors come from out of the woods to attack the children. The children's victory is short-lived as they see from a hilltop a huge gathering of pagan warlords that is preparing to do battle.
