Black Friday is a global thing? I thought it was just because people in the US waited till the day after our thanksgiving to start shopping for xmas... Did it deep over to y'all who use £'s?

Retailers in the UK are unfortunately trying to make it a thing here, but I refuse to accept it.

Congrats on the unexpected extra money, op!

Well we started getting Cyber Monday because most of the websites we use are US sites. Asda (Owned by Walmart) figured they'd bring over the tradition which of course resulted in the same brawls fights as the US. I think they did it two(?) years running before this year deciding they wouldn't participate at all. I think most retailers didn't really have a problem with fights since they have the BF deals available online.

It's stuck though because I think If most retailers tried to back out, a lot of consumers would still be aware of the US getting an amazing sale and would complain. A lot of the sale stuff the past couple years is tech and tvs so it wasn't too useful but a lot more websites are aware of the sales now. Particularly a lot of Asian websites that sell /asianbeauty products are doing black friday sales and they're mostly based in Korea.

The clothing stores I subscribe to by email are also going crazy with 50% deals. Usually you wouldn't see cuts that big on stuff still in season.

Its a marketing tool here in the UK, plenty of gullible people still fall for it.
