Issues to be aware of for these vehicles
Hi there. Hoping to get some feedback on issues with vehicles, for instance the 2014 Ford Focus transmission, etc. Stuff that may have happened in, say, 2007-09, but not elsewhere for these vehicles. My budget is around 6k, so I'm working with some estimates on years from craigslist in my area
2004-2009 Honda Civic 2003-2008 Toyota Camry (V6 and 4 Cylinder) (less likely than the civic, since I want a hatchback and would settle for a sedan anyway)
2003-2006 Mazda 3 (Hatch) 2004-2007 Volvo xc70 2005-2010 Ford Focus (hatch and wagon)
The way I'm looking at it, I want a hatch or wagon. However, I think I would settle for a civic for the mileage and history of durability. 6k budget. I couldn't give a shit if it's fun to drive. I don't need to go fast. If I can get it to 70 on the highway and it's not loud on the interior, that's all I really care about.
Will be doing headlights, stereo head unit, and adding receiver if not already on. Receiver would be for bike rack and small loads (ie: aluminum fishing boats, dump runs, rent-a-haul-esque trailers for long distance moves, etc)
If you have any further suggestions, go for it.
General ideas as well below:
2000-2005 Lexus (toyota with a haircut!) (would be a sedan or hatch, but most likely a sedan from Lexus) 2004ish acura sedan (not sporty/fast/coupe) 2004-05 Infinity
2004ish CR-V 2002-04 Rav4
SUVs I may look at. Currently have an 04 Jeep WJ (Grand Cherokee) and am doing almost exclusively highway. 16-18mpg (on a good day) doesn't attract me much. Looking to tone that down so the part of me wanting an SUV can settle for a sedan/hatch!
Location: New England. I can get snow tires. Rust will be a losing battle no matter what I get.
edit to add (02 Dec 2015, 17:23 EST):
Nissan 2005 ish Maxima
I am a mechanical engineer, I can do a lot of repairs on my own. I'm not afraid to get a little messy and read up on repairs.
