Why can't my close friends take me seriously when I say I'm childfree?
Two friends gave me the indirect 'we don't take your childfree commitment seriously' comments this week.
First scenario: talked with a friend of 20 years, who is a Daddy. He asked about another long time mutual friend of ours back home whom I saw over the holiday. I mentioned that she's not doing to well: in her early 30s, facing a divorce, and still no babies. He half jokingly said, "hey maybe you should get together and make some kids?"
...sigh...
Second scenario. Another friend is my wing-chick / dating-detox-buddy. Another close friend conversation goes like this. "So you mean not now, right? Later you'll have kids."
She knew better than to ask that, but I had to clarify it again.
At least I didn't get the "you'll change your mind stuff."
It must be the holidays, right?
Edit to Add: I think this is an example of a micro aggression, no matter how well meaning it might be.
