Calculating Defense Damage Reduction

Hello, everyone. New to posting on reddits, far from new to SW.

I was looking something up today, and ended up directed to ItsTheRabbit's thread on attack multipliers.

All of that is excellent information, and this shouldn't have any significant impact there; but there was one claim he made in his related thread that struck me as off.

Specifically, he said that the defense reduction was calculated as 1000 / (1000 + 3*Defense). A nice, clean formula that gets the expected diminishing returns shape. But it still seemed off.

For context, I've spent an obscene amount of time myself working out the defense calculations, using the (hopefully standard) method of attacking an enemy with known defense using a Bounty Hunter, in order to isolate the damage reduction due to defense (Defense Ignore vs. Non). So I had my own set of numbers, which disagreed with the 1000/1000+3D formula. And that formula has a depressingly low practical cap of 92% damage reduction.

My numbers are a bit messier, but let's be honest here: SW uses floating point math. The formula I derived is that the damage reduction is: (D = Defense)

D
Σ 0.0025/(1.00258^(i-1))
i=1

(Told you it was ugly.)

I know my formula still has some issues, but it matches my data and seems to be in the same ballpark when I run predictions. So here's my question: Has the community at large reached some consensus on the most accurate formula to determine damage reduction from defense?
