Dog Damage Boosts > Deku Gainer??

I was screwing around on speed run sites about MM3D and wanted to try some tricks. The Gainer saves time from getting the Moon Tear and all that, so I tried it out and couldn't do one for the life of me. Then, on like the 30th way back up the ramp, the dog hit me, and I spent the next 15 minutes trying to lead him up and backflip into a damage boost. It was a pain at first, but I got into a rythm of getting him up there. One of the attempts I tried to buffer my jump but moved the camera accidentally and ended up hitting the top of the slope next to the clock tower stairs and lost my mind. If one of you could test this for me with like an emulator that would be awesome! TL;DR possible dog damage boost in place for Deku gainer to skip Moon Tear, needs testing.
