Bee Stings & Med Clearance
I have been invited to serve in Zambia but I am freaking out a little bit. I am allergic to hornets yet I have really only been stung once and it was 10 years ago. My face swelled up, I had hives, but my throat did not close. A few years after that I was stung by a wasp and I barely had a reaction, took a Benadryl and I was fine. Peace Corps requested that my PCP fill out an "emergency response plan" for if I am stung. In the letter my PCP states that if stung I need to have access to an ER within 15 minutes. 15 minutes! I am terrified that I won't pass medical clearance because of this recommendation. Additionally, I think it is so silly because there are lots of poisonous critters within the country (Black Mambas hello!) that could do a lot more damage than a bee. What do you guys think, will this affect me being able to serve?
