Questions about VA employment process
Hello Social Worker Redditors I received a call from a former supervisor who informed me of an opening at the VA for a HUD/VASH case worker. I've heard the process can be long and I hoping someone can answer my questions so I can know what to expect.
-
For starters, this position is called a "direct hire"... what does this mean?
-
What should I expect to be asked during my interview? Will I need to know military terms (I have no experience with military acronyms)
-
What happens after I'm interviewed? Will I need to fill out an application? I only sent in my cover letter and resume
-
I've heard I need to write a narrative... what does this entail?
-
Does the VA do pre-hire drug screens? (I only ask because I am on stimulant medications for my ADHD which makes me nervous to tell employers based on past experience)
-
Do I need to include traffic tickets under my past offenses?
-
What should I know about the VA and how they treat their employees?
-
How are the benefits and is there a probationary period?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS REDDIT
