Will backwards compatibility become the new standard

I know we are a few years off from the next Xbox and BC for 360 games has only just launched (and it's been pretty great, getting to play games I missed out on is great) but I have built a rather large digital library of games for my xbox one. Just like I am sure a lot of you have.

So that's where things become murky. If the next Xbox has BC for Xbox one games and you can just plug in an external with instant access of your digital library, it seems to me it would become the new standard?

This also points to power, when the next console is announced. In all likelihood, it'll be able to push 4K out with ease (hopefully).

Just some random conjecture.
