Coding for passive income

Has anyone here been able to use their skills to create passive income? For example, I will be developing a series of Wordpress themes, training designers to set them up, and then taking a percentage of the income from the sales of them. Once my part is complete, I'll collect on any sales and create passive income for myself. Any other ideas or creative ways to get paid using Dev skills?
