Temple: How loose is too loose?

Hello,

How do you know if your temples are too loose? Most people I've seen have very little to no space between the temple and their skin, but an article I read says it's OK to have some space there as long as it's no more than a finger width (i.e. you shouldn't be able to slide your finger easily there). Any input? Thank you.
