Solution: How To Return Solo Queue Without Diluting Matchmaking Pools
So there have been a lot of threads on the matter recently and it got me thinking about a few things.
If Solo Queue was brought back, the majority of Ranked Players would use it and prefer it (as shown by the results of the Poll on the Dev forum). That's great for Solo Queuers.
The trouble with that though, is that it would lead to bigger search times for people queuing as a Party - the Duo and Tripple stackers etc.
So here's a question: why does Party MMR exist?
Your Solo MMR is YOUR score. YOU are the one CONSTANT in all of your games when you queue solo.
Your Party MMR however, is as fake as a pornstar's tits. If you queue with the same 2 friends EVERY time you play for 200 games in a row, its not your score. It's your stack's score. Then if later on you begin to play with 2 entirely different friends on a regular basis - friends whom have much lower Party MMR than yours, you may see your own Party MMR begin to drop because those 2 new players are affecting your win/loss ratio very negatively.
So the solution is simple: Remove Ranked Party MMR from the game. It's inaccurate and it's not needed. That rank does not define your skill. It will change every time you change your stack.
Currently the main pools are split into 4:-
1) People who queue for ranked games solo
2) People who queue for non-ranked games solo
3) People who queue for ranked games as a stack
4) People who queue for non-ranked games as a stack
By removing Party MMR queues you are decreasing search times for all queuers because everybody queuing in stacks will have to queue non-ranked.
This leaves fewer queues:-
1) Players queuing solo for ranked games
2) Players queuing solo for non-ranked games
3) Players queuing in stacks for non-ranked
Most people who queue in stacks are just there to have fun with their friends anyway. Whereas Solo Queuers are out to make a name for themselves, to rank up, to try hard and to play seriously.
Stack Queuers are often just there to have a bit of a laugh with mates or experiment with new combo strats and take bigger risks. There's no reason why these experiments should take place in a ranked match.
