Help! I've lost dogmeat and can't find him anywhere

Ive lost dogmeat and have been looking everywhere for him. Im playing on ps4 and ive checked all the dog houses in sanctuaryand the red rocket where you origionally find him and still no luck. Should i just assume he's lost forever or is there a specific place he would be?
