Should I extract?

I just got a pound in the mail today and I was wondering if it would be worth it to extract all of it. I've read tutorials about how to extract it, but I've never actually done it before. I guess my issue is, since I've never done it before, I'm worried I'm going to burn it and waste a whole pound. I've heard that the more kratom that is used, the more potent the extract is; so if that's true I would want to extract the whole pound and not just part of it. Is there a high burn risk to extracting it if you've never done it before? Or is it just one of those "pay attention to what you're doing and it will be fine" sort of things?
