Sudden jump in difficulty?

So I am now lvl 44, I am decently equipped (got a 2 shot sniper and combat shotgun), was having no problem killing most things, but suddenly and im not sure when, I am almost unable to kill stuff. A crit with my combat shotgun (250dmg) takes like 10% of legendary raider hp. Sneak crits with my sniper (190dmg) barely hurts a super mutant master.. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. Anyone had something like this in their game?
