MARK RICHT MEGA-THREAD

Miami Herald: UM expecting deal with Richt

UM officials were very optimistic today that a deal would be finalized to make former Hurricanes quarterback Mark Richt the Hurricanes' next coach, according to multiple sources.

Nothing was signed as of 4 p.m., but one high ranking UM official said Miami was under the impression that Richt would take the job.

A source close to Richt also confirmed his interest and expressed optimism something would get done with Miami, barring any last-minute change of heart (which, frankly, can never be ruled out).

The source said Miami always was his first preference, contrary to an ESPN report that said he leaned toward Virginia.

The sides have been in conversations for the past two days.

"This is a great day for Miami," said one UM official briefed on the discussions with Richt, and expecting the hiring to be finalized.
