PC completely freezing at random
Hi,
Since I built my PC about 2 years ago, I have been getting completely random system freezes. To begin with they were very rare (maybe once a month if that) but now have started happening about 3-4 times a week. When this happens it freezes everything - mouse doesn't work, I can't use anything like ctrl-alt-delete, and the only way to fix it is to reboot the PC from the power button. There seems to be no pattern with them, it can happen while the PC is idle, or if I'm playing a game, or just on Chrome.
I've tried checking the Windows event viewer each time this happens, but I'm not really sure what to be looking for and all the most important messages it gives me a kernel related and are to do with the system not shutting down properly.
Things I have tried so far:
-
New SSD
-
Reinstalling Windows 7, and then upgrading to Windows 10
-
Running the Windows Memory Diagnostic (seemed to be fine from the results)
-
Uninstalling/reinstalling most of the programs I use to see if one was causing the issue
-
Updating all the drivers I can find/think of
I am waiting for some new RAM, in case it is the RAM stick I currently have is causing the problem. The only other thing I have been unable to do is replace the stock HFS for my CPU, thinking maybe the CPU temperature could be the problem?
Some specs -
AMD FX-6350
Kingston Hyper-X Red 8GB RAM
MSI R9 270X
Crucial BX100 240GB SSD
Corsair CX600M PSU
Windows 10 Pro
If anyone has any insight as to what could be causing these freezes, it would be amazingly helpful. I'm at wit's end and running out of ideas!
