My N3DSXL is fully updated. Can I region unlock and play a retail copy of monster hunter X if I borrow a friend's cubic ninja?

I won't have constant access to the cubic ninja, but could I hack my 3DS once using the cubic ninja, return it to my friend then continue playing region locked games?
