60-90fps + screen tearing without Vsync, 30-40fps with

When I turn off Vsync I get 60-90fps but the screen tearing is very distracting, but turning Vsync on cuts my fps in half. Is there any way to stop the screen tearing without cutting too heavily into performance? I have a 1080p 60hz monitor, i5 4690k and r9 390 all at base clocks.
