Podracing seems to be a quiet subject among the fanbase but I feel it was one of the best things to come out of Star Wars. Here's why.

General Discussion

The mention of podracing seems to be nonexistent in the Star Wars community. Aside from some talk about the nostalgia of the classic podracing games like Episode One Racer and Racer Revenge that pop up once in a blue moon, I rarely ever see any talk of it anywhere. I'm not saying that it needs to be at the peak of discussion but I think it needs it's due credit.

When I saw podracing for the first time, I was about the same age as Anakin was in Episode 1. I was amazed by the whole scene. The super fast machines were the fastest land vechile we had ever seen. It was rough, dirty, had amazing pacing, and game us a small villian to fight against. The intesity of the pod race blew my mind. When Anakin was thrown from the course by Sabulba and did that sick diving mauver to gain the lead, I remember jumping for joy the same way I did when I first saw the Death Star blow up. To me, it was the coolest thing a kid could ask for.

Now I'm older and I still look back on that race the same way. Every time I rewatch TPM, I look forward to the race. Even today, it still holds the same emotion it did when I first saw it as a kid. Lucas may not have done a lot of things right in the prequels, but to include this scene as one of them would be a mistake. I hope to see more podracing in the future. Maybe even a spin off movie with some podracing would be cool. Its a special part of the Star Wars galaxy that I think could make for a great experience.
