Should Plots get a shot at the first line LW spot?
I've been thinking about this for a while since Plots started showing that he's made the adjustment to NHL games and, well, I think it's a really interesting idea. Perron/Malkin/Kessel have been incredible and I'm reluctant to split them up when Plotnikov seems to, in theory, have the skill set that Crosby needs from a LW.
Crosby has been basically doing all the work this season on the boards. Horny is glued to the net and Duper tries so hard but he's just not first line anymore. And Kunitz has showed that he's great on the third line but also isn't first line anymore. However, when Kuni was great with Sid, it was because he was a bulldog on the boards and was in there doing the dirty work so Sid could get down to work. And, well, that's what Plotnikov is great at. I doubt it would be instant chemistry and its still a worry to do such a big move when he's still new to the NHL, but it seems like something with some definite promise.
