Two questions about the Blue Sentinels

Often, the red phantom will be close to death, then run away and use the Black Separation Crystal. While this is unsurprising and typical behavior for reds, my question is if this counts as a successful defense for purposes of levelling up the Blue Sentinels covenant?

Escorting a host to the boss room as a Blue Sentinel results (oddly) in an "Objective Met" appearing on the screen, instead of "Invader Banished". Does this count toward levelling the covenant?
