Many characters have had long family traditions of service in Starfleet what impact do you think this has had on their own service? especially compared to those who don't have this?
Kirk and Janeway both had parents in Starfleet. Sisko and Picard did not. Janeway might even be referred to as a Starfleet baby with her farther being an admiral and her fixation on the service starting so early. Many characters have had long family traditions of service in Starfleet. Tom Paris maybe be a perfect example of how this can sometimes actually damage a person. Also some of the best Starfleet officers like Sisko and Picard are not Starfleet born and raised perhaps the exact opposite for Picard. Do you think there any hint of nepotism for those born and raised in the service? There must be at least aspect of marvel towards those who are the sons and daughters of Starfleet's heroes? Do Starfleet born and raised types lack original thought? Of those we know who are Starfleet born and raised like Willard Decker and Geordi Laforge share anything more in common? Or does not being Starfleet born make one less likely to make the mistakes of groups like Red Squad who may over idealize and misinterpret the service? Or does it simply create a less ridged style of command? Maybe one could argue that its only through Janeway's family's service to starfleet that she is able to force Voyager to retain its sense of being a Starfleet vessel? Who knows would love to hear people's views maybe it makes no difference at all?
