I deleted my rant video, lets see if we can start this discussion in a more useful manner
So I made that video after being extremely salty about seeing players exploit the system and my MMR skyrocketing after going on way too much on a winstreak (19-2) vs high level opponents. This lead to me facing full oRNG roster and losing 2 points for losing that game.
I'm going to quote intigo who mentioned the problems much better than I did
----- Intigo This video is a bit of a messy rant, but it's certainly true that the new system has a ton of issues. Everyone starts in Amber, their matches are decided by MMR. This means that good players face good players, but they move up the Divisions at a potentially even slower rate than a completely new player would (queue times, higher amount of premades in higher MMR levels). Across all levels of MMR everyone is progressing at a similar rate even though Divisions were supposed to be about the best being on top. To add to that, there are supposedly ways to abuse the system and gain Pips at an even faster rate. The biggest problem in this entire thing is that MMR and your Division Rank are completely separate. This is really bad. Also, the 5-stacks, but that's a given. It feels like ArenaNet is doing multiple things: Overcomplicating the new system to salvage the one they currently have in place (Division and MMR separated). It feels half-assed the way they've introduced this and the entire system ends up a mess because they are trying to merge 2 different things. Doing their best to appeal to non-PvP'ers by creating a somewhat grindy Division system that doesn't feel like it was made for competition at its core. If you create a system that is competitive and competitively minded at its base then that will always work the best. It inspires people to get better and to improve - you can still have your carrots there if you insist, fill it up with Transmutation Charges for all I care. There are a number of ways they could have alleviated all of this (or a mix of them): Reset everyone, just start from scratch Placement matches (play 5-10 matches, that decides your MMR/division placement) Division placement decided by pre-patch MMR Helseth talks about a win streak mechanic - apparently it works in HS, so there's that as well. I don't know how HS works. Also, seriously, what's with the pips? Why couldn't we just have larger-reaching numbers and points? This suffers from the same issue that the points-based Leaderboard they made had since you could only get 1, 2 or 3 points for a game. What is the point of rounding up/down when we could have more accurate measurements? Why have a system separate from MMR?! Dota 2 MMR is miles simpler and miles better than what has happened in GW 2. Simple numbers, reaching 8000+, which is both used for ranking you on Leaderboards and for finding you matches. It's perfectly visible in the game, you know exactly where you are ranked among 100s of thousands of other players and it's a decent measurement of skill. And they split the Solo and Party MMR instead of having it as just a single number (so you cannot inflate your Solo MMR by farming soloQ'ers with your premade). (They do have issues with matchmaking when it comes to Solo and Party MMRs mixing in games, but most tryhard games are filled with Solo players because that's the only thing shown on the Leaderboards) There we go - now you have a text rant to go with your video rant.
This thread was not made in order to discuss how arenanets are failure at makign pvp/how pvp is a waste of time or how dragonhunter is extremely broken. It brought up the fact that high MMR players are horribly punished for being high MMR with absolutely 0 positives. It also opened up a chance for people to bring up their ideas to say how the system can improve.
My suggestions is winstreaks being rewarded just as highly as the MMR increases as you keep increasing it in order to make sure someone who went 20-0 isnt going to just get +20 pip points while having a MMR that would have him facing ppl on legend.
Anyhoo improvements for the league can be discussed here
Oh and ye lets not talk about dishonored I might smash my monitor.
