[question] Anyone ever cut a stabilized burl with hand tools?

I am looking to make scales for a santoku knife with stabilized redwood burl for scales. This is the stabilized burl I'll be using, but it will need to be sawn in half lengthwise (not sure if you can call it a rip because it's a burl) to be used as scales. I only have hand saws and a compound miter (table saw and veritas dovetail and carcass saws comin' in hot for christmas) Can it be done with a hand saw or should I look for an alternative.
