Applying to sales jobs at top tech companies (Google, Facebook, etc). Bad idea to list my current entrepreneurial activities?
24M. Graduated from a prestigious university, was interviewing for sales jobs with Google, Facebook etc but ended up taking non-sales job with different company (also big company, but not tech). Been with that company now 1.5 years.
I've also been getting seriously into programming over the past few years, though unrelated to my major or job. I run a startup and do freelance web development. These activities have taught me a ton about sales, client relations, time management, etc.
I believe my side entrepreneurial pursuits would be great selling points for applying to tech sales jobs. However, I worry that Google, Facebook etc may view this history of side pursuits as risks or distractions, should they choose to hire me.
TL;DR: title.
Any advice?
EDIT: for those interested: I got the job (I'm a lucky bastard I guess, had good luck everywhere). Currently working at a top 3 tech company. Don't hold back on your resume, be yourself!
