Where is the "We're going to bomb innocent civilians" narrative coming from?

I'm a recently graduated student so I've still got a fairly lefty circle of friends. They all day we've just voted to bomb innocents in Syria. As far as I'm aware were going to be carrying out airstrikes against ISIS and not just dropping napalm all over Syria. I'm confused to where this narrative is coming from since I haven't even seen The Guardian claiming we're sending planes out to bomb civilians in Syria.
