Questions for anyone playing with no fast travel?

How do you deal with crafting? How do you deal with settlements? It can take so much scrap to upgrade weapons and armor, what's your solution if you can't quickly fast travel to store your junk/scrap? What stats did you find more important to overcome these issues? Or do you just sink an excessive amount of time into walking to and from your preferred settlement?
