Citizens UNITE! Demand full metrication for Canada!

Today, I was reading some of the Railway Investigation report about the tragic Ottawa OC-Transpo/VIA Rail accident in 2013 and I realized that the entire document, which is extensive, used Imperial measurements throughout. In fact, the authors only began to include metric in parentheses at about 25 percent into the document, and quite abruptly too.

I felt like I wanted to lightly rage on the subject while visiting Reddit, where I first found the report and what I found were other likeminded citizens who felt the same way I do. Why have metric as the official Canadian measurement system when so many industries and commercial sectors refuse to convert, or even offer equal labelling?

Industries like construction, books, hardware and cooking tools, home appliances, real estate, and even our own government’s legal system do not fully offer metric labelling and/or practices universally. In some legislation there are legally defined imperials units being used. They never bothered to revise existing laws and statues to the metric system.

As our greatest ally and neighbour, the USA, is extremely influential and interconnected with Canadian commerce and culture. Also, for obvious reasons, many of our written media, imports, appliances, and so many other things in our lives are in imperial.

Someone on the Reddit threat had previously explained that due to the North American rail systems being so interconnected they all use the same system. Which makes perfectly reasonable sense as a notable exception. Yet, if you travel to Europe, some countries have the same cookbooks, thermostats, TVs, and 2x4s we buy in Canada, but they are all in metric. Even the US Armed Forces exclusively use the metric system at home and abroad. Our own government either refuses to amend the written tombs of the land and force all businesses to follow suit, or they’re being negligent in full metrication (doubtful,) or there hasn’t been any real demand for this change.

How can this be? The answer is complex and generational. Most older Canadians educated prior to the early 1970s learned the imperial system, before Canada adopted the metric system. We have a long way to go.

I would like to hear your thoughts, particularly from government types on how we can have full conversion to metric/dual, other than getting rid of all the older generations and burning all the books lol—Can’t we have both?

TL;DR: Why can’t we convert to full metric in all aspects of our lives or at least offer both imperial and metric for say maybe 15 more years?
