fuck you, math teachers and textbook writers

I've pretty much decided that the people who write math textbooks are flaming jerks - especially if they integrate their books with horrific software (such as mymathlab or webassign). They skip steps on the assumption that the student "should be able to follow along because they already know it," disregarding the fact that most students have no where near enough time to practice it to the point where certain operations become second nature, and have been thrown into the deep end at a rate that is unsustainable. They create practice problems which rely heavily on concepts that aren't being taught in that section, and end up taking more time on the ephemera than the important concepts. I'm saying this in my fourth consecutive quarter of math classes; I've 2 As, a B, and i'm staring down the barrel of an F this quarter because I literally cannot keep up. 4 hours of instruction per week, and to keep up with that I have had to put in more than 15 hours per week to complete HALF of the assigned work. I broke. I can't do it with the resources I've been given. I've spent a lot of time with tutors and with online resources, and it's not fucking helping me actually pass the questions. Everyone wants to "make it simple" and then runs into the problems and takes JUST AS MUCH TIME working it out. This isn't helpful, it's not TEACHING and it's not a way to learn.

.

All of this tells me that the instructors who assign those books and their electronic "practice" problems are complicit in providing shitty education. It's no wonder america does not lead in STEM fields. We've created a situation where "those who can't, teach" by paying teachers a pittance and refusing quality standards in textbooks (hi, Texas). Fuck all of you assholes who constantly deride teaching, who have saddled us with a pitiful and useless education system. Fuck your desire to make a profit on every single thing in the world. You don't deserve to make a profit by screwing over me and my children.
