It's sad how much money matters...
I find it strange how much money matters to these players that are making hundreds of millions of dollars. If I got an offer for a job that at a location that I knew I liked, with management that I knew was great, but was 80k/year vs a 90k/year offer at some other place, I'd take the first offer because I know how much a good work environment, good people, and good management mean to my everyday happiness.
Then, I also feel that at a certain point (not really sure, but let's say 25 million dollars), there's not much more you can get with each additional million. If $25 million can't get you want you want, then neither will $30 million. Even more, what's the difference between $180 million and $200 million? I mean, really, I can't even fathom having that much money!
So what's the point? Just get top dollar and that's all that matters? Knowing that you're going to a crappy (potentially) organization, with crappy teammates, and a city that you don't care about? AND, that your extra $$ is actually taking away from the organization the ability to surround you with better players.
I realize people need to get paid, but, especially in baseball when the contract is basically guaranteed, if you get a multi-year contract you know that you're gonna be just fine.
I would absolutely love a player to go against this ego and top dollar FA nonsense... which is probably why I was so excited when I heard about Crawford's extension.
