Do international students have a harder time looking for internships and jobs?

Hello guys, I am asking this question because I am an international student myself and even though I understand the struggle of looking for internships happens to every student, I am starting to feel that my status as an international student is making it even harder. I have applied to almost 70 internships already, out of which I have only gotten 3 interviews, and the rest have either ignored me or rejected me. While my school might not be a target school, I know that at-least local companies always hire our students, however today I got the rejection from one of them. This one specially hurt because as I said, they always hire our students, no matter if they might not be good. Currently I have a 3.7 GPA and some side projects, and I also work with a professor building a website and database. All these students with worse credentials than I have are getting hired, I just feel that checking that box of will you need visa in the future is affecting me. Have you guys experienced the same, or you as a hiring manager for internships care about the visa status for an intern?

TL;DR : International student not getting offers despite much better credential than most of my american classmates due to my status.
