Issue updating from 1.98 --> 2.xx (OSX)

Hello everyone,

I recently deposited some funds into my Electrum account, but when I attempted to send them out I was given a message saying I would need to upgrade to version 2.51+ in order to do so (I have been using version 1.98 without any issues). I downloaded the latest version, but upon starting it up I was only given a message saying "Electrum Error" with a lengthy console code explanation. I was subsequently given the same message when I opened up my 1.98 app, but was able to regain access to my wallet by deleting the config file. I have tried upgrading to several prior versions to no avail. Versions 2.0-2.31 will not open at all, and versions 2.4+ all give me the same error message I got from the 2.54 upgrade. For reference, I am running OSX 10.6.8. I've heard conflicting reports about whether or not Electrum supports it, but as I said previously I have had no issues with the 1.98 build that I have been using for more than a year. If anyone has any insight whatsoever into what could be causing this problem and how I could fix it, I would be incredibly grateful. Furthermore, if upgrading Electrum simply isn't possible for me at this time then is there a way to bypass the upgrade prompt so that I can at the very least withdraw my funds from the account?
