"Attending" My Party

I'm not a big Facebook fan. I rarely use it anymore - I have most of my close friends' numbers already so that works out alright. One of the few things I use it for is planning events.

I haven't had a bash for my birthday in a few years and I thought it might be nice next weekend to hang out with a few mates, you know. I invite around 30-40 people, and most of them respond that they're coming, a few can't (understandable, it's a busy time of year), and some said they might be able to make it. All good, I'm sure they'll make up their minds one way or the other.

So when I find out that people who've said they "are coming" say, "Oh shit, I have a wedding on that weekend", or "I think I have something else on that weekend"...

THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU SAY YOU'RE ATTENDING?

Myself and my mate, who was awesome enough to have the party at his place, are buying sausages, veggies, bread, the whole shebang, and now I'm wondering "How many of these people who've said they're coming will actually show up?" I'm so sick and tired of the casual "Click and be done with it" aspect of Facebook. The "Attending" button is pretty much the "Like" button, like, "Yeah, it would be good to go to this event, so I'm just going to click and say I have a passing interest in it rather than actually committing to anything."

I don't know. The whole thing has me a bit hurt. Maybe I have less friends than I thought I did. Maybe it hurts more because I'd do anything for my friends and it sucks when they're not willing to be there for me. I just think I should cancel the party altogether.
