in Gate there's female soldiers in combat situations. it's kind of an academic issue considering the country in question, but does anyone know if that's actually in keeping with Japanese military rules?

some countries don't put women in combat on the logic of sexism that they are typically weaker than men

normally this sort of thing doesn't matter in military themed shows because it's a made up military. because it's suppose to be the actual JDF I'm curious if it's true to life (at least in a theoretical sense)?
