[Discussion] How about an OP where we thank game devs?

DISCUSSION

Game developers get a TON of crap from their players but rarely get to hear from their happy customers as those people are busy playing their games. We've also seen some pretty crappy treatment of devs lately, especially with Konami. What do you guys think an operation with the goal of simply sending messages of thanks to the people who create the game we all enjoy?

Goal: Send as many thank yous as we can to anybody who has helped create games we enjoy.

What to Do: Write a short message about how much joy you've received from a game and thanking the people who created that game. This can be any game, digital or physical. Once its written, send it off to the folks who created that game.

Examples: I'm sending my Christmas cards out this weekend, so I've decided to send out a couple of extra cards. I used to argue with a MMO develoepr ALOT years ago about balance issues, so I'm gonna send a card to his office. I've also going to send a few out to dev teams involved with some of my favorite games. Nice and quick and I have the extra stamps to do it.

You could also send digital cards. Create something unique if you have those skills and share it via social media. This would be a great way to send thanks to Community Management teams and trust me, those folk deal with a TON of negativity and could use some uplifting.

Send some video thanks. I don't have what I'd need for a decent video, but if you do why not create something clever? Maybe we could send a bunch of Vines or just short YouTube clips. Again, sharing these via social media channels is probably the easiest way to get things out.

What are your thoughts? I'm going to go ahead and do this on my own, but I think it would be really great if a bunch of us sent out cards as well. If enough people were to do so we could spread a lot of cheer in the next couple of weeks!

Another idea: Table this until Valentines Day and send out a massive flood of valentines. We could name it OP Spreading the Love.

My work schedule was pretty crazy last year so I must have missed that. If anybody remembers the name of the OP though lets revive it!

Well there is the million strong campaign so we could use that. Its gotten several thousand signatures on it so far, might as well help boost it.

I completely get where you are coming from OP.

I don't owe anyone shit, my purchase is thanks enough. I don't write a letter to Quaker every time I cook up my oatmeal, I don't praise my barista ever cup of coffee I buy. I get that there are good devs that deserve praise, and there are many other people who effect your life in in many more ways with many less degrees of separation that get none.

Is this a sincere gesture or is this posture?

Sincere gesture. I'm actually a developer myself, working as a consultant. Earlier in the week one of my clients sent me a gift basket and it came right after having to deal with a very difficult client. So I've been mulling this idea over for a couple of days.

I get why you wouldn't feel the need to to send out thanks, but I just think it would be a nice and relatively simple gesture from the KIA community.

I understand the, most of the time I see an OP on the web patting someone else's back, it's really a ruse for someone else to pat themselves on the back in public view. Glad there is sincerity to this.

Given my games purchases in the last two years there really aren't many devs I want to thank. Big Games needs to clean house or get a house keeper before I give praise. Tired of being nickel and dimed becoming an industry norm.

I'm not going to let someone is shitting on devs for reasons I don't agree with distract me why I and many other gamers are mad too.

While I might not praise my barista, I certainly do give thanks and a smile.

I think anyone would, it's a face to face interaction.

People behave different in person.

Open up an Activision store, I'll give thanks there.

I really like this idea!

Thanking our favorite developers, and specifically what we like most about what they've done, would be a great way to give positive feedback.

Capitalism is great and all, but a card or a video adds a whole lot more in the way of personal appreciation.

I'm super busy with moving to Alaska this month, so I might lean towards the Valentine's day idea more myself, but it's a great idea either way.
