Q&A About Launches for this Week (Data SIM, etc.)
Hey Everyone!
Here are some Q's and A's for the Questions you've been asking...
##DATA SIM##
#Can I get a data sim by itself? Nope. You must already be paying for a phone plan. This is an add on, and not a stand alone feature, at this time.
#How much does it cost? Nothing if you choose standard shipping!
#How many data sims can I have? You may have up to 9 associated with your account!
#Is the coverage the same as the sims currently available? No. There's a separate coverage map, and your device must be compatible with T-Mobile. Coverage map here: http://fi.google.com/data-only-sim-coverage
#What devices are supported? Nexus 7 - K009 (US LTE), Nexus 9 - 0P82300 (US LTE), iPad Air 2 - Model A1567, iPad mini 4 - Model A1550, Galaxy Tab S - Model SM-T807V
#What if my device isn't supported? Don't worry! You may still be able to use your device, but we can't make guarantees. Read up here: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6330195
#How is the data billed? Data is still $10/GB. It comes from the same data pool as your main device.
#Can I swap this sim between devices? Yes, you can! Unlike the Fi Sim with voice and text as well as data, this sim doesn't need a specific device to be activated. You activate it yourself remotely, so there's no need to be on a specific device with your Fi account, etc.
#Can I tether? Officially, no, but your phone may allow tethering. You can try the tethering apn "h2g2-t".
#But I still have questions? I probably have answers! Please comment below and I'll answer them! :)
##PROTECTION PLAN##
Read this first: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/project-fi/hq9ThIsiqmo
And then this: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6309809?p=device_protection&rd=1
#What is the difference between Nexus Protect and Fi Protect? Nexus protect stays with your device regardless of carrier. Fi Protect only is while you're paying $5/mo. There's also differences in deductibles and how often you can get replacements.
#Is the Nexus 6 supported? No, only the 5x and 6p.
#Does that mean the 6 has no protection? No, there's still a one time replacement available for $100.
