Quick armor question. Is there ever a situation where standard T5 gear is better than T5.2?

So I just got T5 Heavy plate armour. Is there ever a situation where the standard T5 gear would be prefered over the T5.2? Like I get the heavy plate is more for tanking but it seems like 5.1 and 5.2 have just all around better stats. If anyone could explain this it would be great.

You can't compare the 2. You have to compared T5.2 to T6. By the time you unlock T5.2 you should also unlock T6. Both should cost about the same as well.

Their whole system is confusing but there are some good posts that explain it. Go find them!

This! And also they already said the system will be changed. Probably in January.

I have a feeling it's all gonna change sometime soon, so I wouldn't worry about it too much now.

I am having the hardest time understanding the benefit of the whole 4.2 etc armor options. I am currently using plate to be tanky for pvp and pve. Is there actually a benefit to wearing the tier 4.1 etc Heaver leather plate vs just plate?

if you're facing more magic damage than physical. heavy cloth is currently the best though because it has the highest magical defense and that is most the damage in this game.

5.2 is a good bit stronger than 5. you need to compare 5 with 4.2.

When leveling up the 4.0 tree for +80 item power on your 4.3 tree?

I don't think you can level up heavy plate using heavy cloth, but I could be wrong, in which case never.

Under the heavy tree, 4.1 is heavy leather and 4.2 is heavy cloth. With 4.0 being plate would plate always be the least powerful?

x.1 Heavy plate by comparison will end up being the least powerful, yes. x.2 Heavy Leather will be slightly better overall and x.3 Heavy Cloth will be better on top of that. The difference isn't HUGE, but it exists. The main thing is the difference in armour distribution.

That being said, x.1 takes base materials whereas x.2 and x.3 take harder to find materials and runes. That makes x.1 cheaper and easier to find in the long run.

I play heavy tank and I prefer x.3 (Heavy Cloth) for PvP because the majority of damage I take is magical, making the cloth the better reduction material. However I usually run in x.1 (Heavy Plate) because I can replace the entire set for cheaper than 1 piece of x.3.

All of the above is subject to change if/when they do the patching rework that was mentioned a bit ago.

Thank you this is really helpful. I think I'm just gonna roll with heavy cloth then. Lastly, I am currently using an axe. Is the bonus damage from the cloth only for casters or is it good for all dps types?

The bonus damage is on everything, but the bonus damage is from Light, not Cloth. It's a strange system and takes a bit of getting used to.

Heavy is tank, Plate is armour based, Leather is balanced, Cloth is magical based in terms of resistance distribution.

Medium is 25% damage with decent defense and lots of mobility.

Light is low defence with a 50% damage increase, and passives for more damage.

So if you use Heavy Cloth, you are still a tank and will not get a damage increase. If you want the high damage increase you'll have to use Light Cloth, Light Leather or Light Plate - all of which will be squishy.
