Friday Spotlight: Santa Claus
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Folks!
Keeping it simple today and shedding some spotlight on someone that's been pretty busy lately.
##Who's Santa?
First Name?
Santa, but I usually just go by Nick when I'm with my running club.
Age?
506 I believe! Give or take a few years, I quit counting sometime in the 17th century.
Where are you from?
The North Pole! HO! HO! HO!
Occupation?
Giver of gifts and a skilled practitioner of the dark arts.
##The Running Questions:
What are your PR’s?
1 mile: 16:12 (without the sleigh)
5k: 54:18 (without the sleigh)
10k: 1:33.56 (without the sleigh)
13.1 miles: 3:11.53 (without the sleigh)
How long have you been running?
I started running during the Spring of 1540 after I realized that my sleigh was clipping the roof tops of villager's homes.
Briefly explain why you began running?
The Mrs got on me early in the 1500's after people started leaving out baked goods for me at each stop. Plus the clipping of the roofs with the sleigh didn't help. The reindeer had to start working a bit harder as well and I just figured it was time to make a few changes. Since starting, I've kept off about 80 pounds.
Most memorable running moment?
Probably my first ever mile. It was at the Elf Classic. They had a special line of tape for me to break because I came in last. It was bitter sweet really. Coming in last but completing such a big task for me at the time was a highlight.
Do you have a running mantra?
Believe!
What’s your highest recorded weekly mileage?
At my peak I was getting in about 20 miles per week. I'm much much busier now so it's not nearly that high.
What time of day do you prefer to run?
Mornings are pretty slow so typically any time before noon.
Any big races coming up?
Nothing at the moment. I've been looking at 5k runs but there are so many to pick from.
What are your short-term running goals?
I'd really love to PR my mile.
What are your long-term running goals?
I'm really inspired by these ultra runners so one day I'd love to do a 100 miler but it requires time I don't have much of.
What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?
No more milk, son! Dairy is the devil.
What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?
My diet.
What is your current shoe choice?
Love my Hokas!
What’s your comfy pace?
I cruise around a 15 minute mile.
Trail? Road? Or Treadmill?
I have been really loving the treadmill since it's creation. I get a lot of flack for it but it keeps me moving.
What's your ideal running weather?
-30's Fahrenheit, Ice and Snow! I generate a lot of heat so it's comfy weather for me.
Do you have any social media accounts you’d like to share? [Facebook, Strava, Twitter]
I'm sure you could find me if you looked hard enough.
What’s your spirit animal?
Yeti
What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?
I've always been a crafty guy so I picked up wreath making in the 1700's after watching an indigenous tribe fashion wreaths out of tree branches. I also enjoy graffiti so tagging rail way cars with elaborate works is something I do when I have a chance.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I see you when you're sleeping and I know when you're awake.
Biggest pet peeve?
When people don't clean their chimney! Ew that really rustles my jolly jimmies.
What songs have you been listening to recently?
Pretty much any Slayer songs. Also DragonForce's song: Through the Fire and Flames.
One Final Question:
Who's your favorite kind of people?
Well, the athletes of r/running sure take the cake on this one! Enjoy all of your gifts children.
That's it folks! I am told that Santa is going to be unreachable so any responses to him will go unanswered more than likely. I was told that you need to be spending time with your loved ones so enjoy the day/night and peace and joy.
