Things I Learned from Melody
Wild as the wind
Vast as the sea
Was the magic I learned
When I met Melody
Each summer she'd arrive
Each autumn she would vanish
And took with her a piece of me
All winter I was banished
Her words were like air to me
An intangible necessity
And through her lovely naive eyes
I saw what I could be
When I realized she was gone for good
My ground turned solid as smoke
Without her air. Without her song.
How was I to cope
A world without her?
Pointless. And utterly absurd.
And if she was not here with me
Her song would go unheard
Then one dark day in the plinking rain
Before I could waste away
I heard a songbirds melody
And saw why she couldn't stay
And though the sun is gray
And though the air is gone
There is still a distant shimmer
When I can faintly hear her song
