I'm interested in the story ; is there a playing / reading order ?

Hi !

I've been interested for a while in the Touhou franchise, so I know basically what's it's about, but I never really immersed myself in it yet. I've played a bit with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, and while I like the game and this kind of game in general, I'm not sure I'll have the time and motivation needed to be really good at it. What I'm more interested in is the story and characters.

What would be the most enjoyable way to learn about the universe ? For example, should I watch Touhou replays to read all the dialogues between characters ? When should I read the mangas ? I'm still a bit confused about the franchise so I'd appreciate any help here, thanks in advance !
