Shoulder to helmet, but still illegal as hell.

You're right. Mostly shoulderpad. But his helmet does nip Brown's a bit.

And the shoulder pad is probably plastic too, and the other guy's shoulder just as hard as his head, and to me it looks like that guy rotated his shoulder in for the hit. Fuck him. The received missed the ball, no need to even touch him.

Brown is one of the best receivers in football too. Devastating injury for the Steelers.

The hit on Geo Bernard was helmet to helmet, and should be be illegal, in football and life. Just because Geo turned it somehow became legal. He was still defenseless, still didn't see the guy, and the Steeler player not only went helmet to helmet, but also led with his head. THAT was a dirty hit! Burfict's hit was hard, but it could have been so much worse.

This is bs hit

this is football people have gotten away with this for a long period of time through ought the game, not just in the NFL..... what was also bs was the other 15 yard penalty after this one.

Its good smashmouth football, as mr. Spider2ybanana Jon Gruden would say. Illegal? Possibly. If youre trying to hit someone and make it hurt, this is the burfict way to do it.

I don't think there was any intent to injure like the idiot announcers were saying, it certainly wasn't flagrant. There might be a fine, but I doubt it. More likely he gets fined for the rest of the game.

More important question, will Brown be ready to go next week, it sure looks to me like he was out cold on that hit, definitely going through concussion protocol.

Unfortunately, your track record affects whether or not people are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. And Vontaze's is horrible. So people just immediately assume, perhaps unfairly, that it was maliciously intentional.

By the way Brown went down, I'd say it's unlikely. But. IANAD.

I expect many downvotes for this: football has no place in modern society.

I totally agree with you. You should expect downvotes.

2

I don't totally agree with you, but it is a fair opinion, and certainly doesn't deserve a bunch of downvotes.

I definitely think massive changes need to be made. The NFLPA really screwed up with the last collective bargaining agreement. When the next negotiation comes around, they need to fight for a lot more. I think massive changes in player safety rules, and contracts fully guaranteed for injury are absolute musts. It would probably lead to a much longer lockout than the last one, but even if there isn't football for a year, the players need to stand up for themselves, because the owners aren't going to do it.

After watching that documentary on concussions and long term brain damage, and what the game does to their bodies physically, it's hard to watch a hit like this, or even the game at all.

Everyone has to be a tough guy, but the long term effects of playing this game can just be horrible.

I watched the same doc yesterday during the game. Couldn't watch the rest of The game after

Construction has no place in modern day society. Construction work leads to long term effects that can be down right horrible.

Difference is that football players get payed millions to play a game every week at certain parts of the year and construction workers get payed jack shit and they work everyday of the week.

Construction is a necessity, football is not.

payed

Which football players get payed [sic] millions? The few superstars? Most of them play a few season, make a few hundred per season, have half of it taken in taxes, and spend the rest on big items when they overestimate their earnings.

Then the NFL will deny the link to their health problems and cover only a fraction of their medical bills, and give them a pittance for a pension since they don't really have any employable skills.

Compare that to many in construction making good money for decades, and many in engineering and management making rewarding and lucrative careers, and both are involved with building great things and making people's lives easier and better.

Try another analogy.

Sports and entertainment have no place in modern society?

I think he means football specifically.
