Trade = throw away?

Yes. When you want to trade a player, the last thing you do is go out and tell the press that you want to get rid of him. That guarantees you get nothing but low-ball offers.

Our GM just came out and told every other GM in the league that we've been trying to get rid of Higgins, have been completely unable to do it, and we're now willing to accept absolutely nothing for him.

Watch, we'll get absolute shit in return for him now - and - we'll probably end up eating half his salary.

Plus, we'll be taking one of our better players and throwing him straight into the trash (when we don't have very many NHL-caliber players to begin with).

Higgins has been told to not play with the team to ensure he stays healthy. The news would've broken out in a day or two anyways. You can't keep these things secret in this league. At least the team gets to release it on their own terms and get ahead of the week of spun up media speculations that would've happened otherwise.

Also, you're an idiot if you think Jim Benning has anything to do with media releases. This is all decided by their communications and PR team.

Hate to break it to ya but as much as we all love Higgins, myself included.. he just isn't worth much at all in terms of trade value. His offensive game has fallen off the map this year and his style of play is a dime a dozen in the league. This is why there is no interest from other GMs.

It seems GMJB/Linden went public with this because of some rumours that were already started. Instead of trying to hide it and cause a controversy (which this team has had enough of in the last few years) they came out in the open with it on their own terms. This honestly is not a cause to be angry in my opinion.

I don't think trading Higgins would confirm that we are tanking...

"Higgins will not remain with the the canucks while this situation is sorted out" does this mean they are scratching him until he is dealt? Have we seen the last of Higgins?
