Banished to Earth

The trees turned on their side,
Branches conduct today’s song,
But the leaves hang their heads
All the same.

The soft, cool air tickles
My vertebrae, as it seeps through
The wormholes in my clothes.
Beaten and scorned- the sun is my tyrant,

The small of my back a nest
For orphan bunnies.
I’ve begun to root in their world;
One with greed, jails, and emitted gas.

Ironic really,
Once a traveller of time-
Cast among the constellations,
Swept through the desolate sands

Of the refugee, drunk with ale
From the barrels shipped to King Henry-
And now, a speed-bump
For the withering snakes;

Overgrown with shrubs.
Have you come to bury me?
Or have you been chasing
The scent I rubbed on the edges of time?

I’d prefer to be swallowed by the forest, than live chained
By the anchors of gravity- And I long to again,
Be a feather carried by the gust of my own winds.
Don’t recoil with fear or doubt,

Pick our next stop in the sky-
Bid the ground farewell, from the dirt
To the well, because in my world-
We fly.
