Friday Spotlight: Pinkpiggie
Greetings fellow runners!
The Friday Spotlight has officially become a success. I'm getting messages daily from people wanting to be featured or looking to see a particular person. Let me say that I wish I could do one of these everyday for a new runner but it takes a bit of effort and once a week is kind of the sweet spot for posting this.
For those curious, the highlighted runner each week gets to nominate next week's Spotlight Athlete. That means today's athlete was chosen by last week's athlete and last week's athlete was chosen by the Spotlight Runner before them, and so on. This keeps things fun and takes pressure off me to choose who's next.
With that said, let's get started and learn a bit more about u/pinkpiggie and finally figure out who she is and why she keeps coming back... enjoy!

###The Running Q&A's:
What are your PR’s?
8k: 55:01 (first race)
10k: 1:01:55,
10 mile: 1:46:35
How long have you been running?
1 year, 6 months and 22 days (on Jan 15, 2016)
Briefly explain why you began running?
I am exactly not sure what the underlying real reason is, but I was having a stressful week at work. One morning, I woke up and thought, “Hey! People say that they go for a run when they are stressed out!” So i downloaded the C25k app and went out for W1D1. I stuck to it because it didn’t suck, I made measurable progress, my SO was/is super supportive, found a hobby, and a way to enjoy my “me time”.
Most memorable running moment?
One morning last winter, wispy snowflakes were falling as I started my 3 mile run. It was about 15F. The bare branches, the bits of greenery, and the ground began to get a light layer of white snow. There were only my footsteps exposing the gray asphalt. Everything at the trail was quiet expect for my footsteps. I kept thinking that I should stop to take a picture, but the run was so magical, I didn’t want to stop.
Do you have a running mantra? “
One day you won’t be able to run, today is not that day.” AND “I run for those who can't.”
What’s your highest recorded weekly mileage?
37.9 miles (The lack of 0.1 miles there still haunts me, 4 months after the fact.)
What time of day do you prefer to run?
Morning
Any big races coming up?
My first half marathon in March! Also excited about the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April with what seems like half of r/running!
What are your short-term running goals?
Continue progressing without getting injured
What are your long-term running goals?
Get easy pace down to 8:xx min/mile
What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?
One step at a time, baby. That person over there who makes it look so cool and easy didn’t get there in one day. It does get easier.
What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?
Strength training. Huge weakness there.
What is your current shoe choice?
Saucony Kinvara 6! #KinvaraMasterRace
What’s your comfy pace?
10:30 to 11:30 (depending on the day and length of the run)
Trail? Road? Or Treadmill?
Road.
What is your ideal running weather?
43-45F, overcast but bright, calm winds. Perfect weather for long sleeves and shorts.
Do you have any social media accounts you’d like to share?
###Just for Fun:
What’s your spirit animal?
Always wanted to be a bird! I would love to fly and see everything from up above!
What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?
I am a food fanatic. (I hate the term foodie because it seems very caviar-eating and champagne-sipping.) I love exploring ethnic foods from all over the world! Corollary to that, I enjoy cooking. I like to read too. I do less of reading books and novels now (at any given time, I am working through 2-3 books) but more of stuff on the Internet (news, articles, commentary, etc.). Trying to also expand my horizon in the world of beer.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I have a good memory for random stuff. For example, I can recall what someone said in passing many years ago. However, I am very forgetful about work stuff or where I have left my keys/phone or the fact that the pot on the counter just came out of the oven.
Biggest pet peeve?
Not being on time. I am okay with a few minutes late, but if you are going to be late by a substantial margin, let the other person know!!
What songs have you been listening to recently?
All kinds of stuff (from Rihanna to Queen, from Savage Garden to Avicii) while running. Been listening to a good bit of instrumental, classical and electronic/house when I need to focus. Also, 90s music is my jam!
###One Final Question:
What is the origin of your username?
I have a stuffed Hamm, aka Evil Dr. Porkchop from Toy Story. I call him Piggie and he is pink.
That's it guys! Really appreciate all of the positive feedback and responses these posts receive. Big thanks to Mrs.Evil Dr. Porkchop for being featured today. Also, please tag u/pinkpiggie's username when personally asking her a question, all responses come to my inbox and if you've not tagged her personally, she has to search each comment one by one which can be a daunting task at times when there's a lot of traffic. Please don't forget that Pinkpiggie might be busy crunching government numbers so be patient in allowing her time to respond...because apparently government workers actually do work sometimes! lol
####Thanks for reading!!!!
