Another Ocean on the Planet
It wasn’t all that long ago
that I stood by the sea
and pondered in that moment Styx,
the Ganges, Galilee.
Tides born in different lands
but waters long since shared,
and though the streams have altered course,
the Tides have still been spared.
Through reservoir, brook, and pond,
the ripple has survived.
Every form has followed it;
every moment tithed.
That which takes to preserve, yet
cannot but erase-
Here a smile overtook me,
relief fresh bathed my face.
For though my gift is nothing great,
my contribution fast,
my salt is of these waters still;
my blood is filled with ash.
This is something I wrote a little while back while studying the Romantic poets.
