What are your favorite youtube Sailing Channels?
I'd like to make a BIG list of them. It is cold in Cleveland and I am running out of new stuff to watch. So share yours!
Here is my List
1. DrakeParagon
Drake is a bad ass. Mo is amazing too. I'm sorry. Maybe i am biased because he and I started our sailing life at the SAME place in Boston within a year of each other. He has been all over the place and I REALLY respect who he is as a sailor. I aspire to do half the stuff he has. My wife hate his videos, she says they are too long and boring. She is going to be embarrassed when we eventually meet him and Mo in a few years. That will be funny.
Shaun and Julia are a really likable couple (That if you watch their earlier stuff are REALLY accomplished sailors. Watching them JUST north of me has been a treat. Shaun was a real sailor from the jump. Julia is cool too and they really have an enjoyable season of sailing to watch. Julia I think is doing the graphics and just a high quality VLOG that I enjoy.
3. Wicked Salty
Wicked Salty, yea I really like Wes. Wes reminds me of myself a bit. Fraternity guy, lots of fun and his story from the FIRST video is extremely interesting. He is a screwball and you can tell he is new at this. The thing is this guy is interesting and it is REALLY fun watching him bloom into a full blown experienced captain. You watch the videos and you just see him getting better. My wife and I watched this one. I think both of our hearts broke at the end of the first season when they wanted to keep on going but they ran out of money. They will be back. What he has out there is a GREAT watch and totally worth it.
4. Sail Life
Mads is like that friend we all have (he is just like my father in law) that is a perfectionist, He is detail oriented and will spend a TON of time doing something that most of us cannot understand. (Why is he putting all this time into his boat when he knows it isnt going to suit his needs?) I mean he explains it.. but still. GREAT cinematography. Interesting reviews on things. Interesting topics. Mads is about to cross the Atlantic here shortly. You can check out his last video and track him doing the crossing. From Reddit Mads.. good luck and cant wait for the videos upon your return. The dude is nice too. My wife ADORES Mads too. like seriously she might leave me for him if he was close. We also bought a Sheltie this summer as a DIRECT result of my wife and I watching these movies and watching his dog Yukut (spelled phonetically).
Follow the boat.. What an enjoyable older couple (My age) sailing the Pacific with their Cat. Great story lines.. Great videos. They are both VERY funny likable sailors. People like this are the reason I look forward to doing this full time someday.
THIS guy! VIC! OMG.. you know the guy that cant make a decision and talks about it OVER and OVER and OVER.. I just wanted to SCREAM at this guy.. MAN! buy a boat. Stop talking and start DOING! Stop being so damn nervous and just get it done. All Jokes aside he had really contributed a lot to the sailing community for those looking for a boat. His videos are all things I learned just before he posted those videos. I really like this couple and I look forward to seeing them cruising. SPOILER ALERT! He bought a boat on the last episode
Great Channel. They buy a awesome new boat for a song and sail it from Europe across the Atlantic. Through the Caribbean.. I think they are aiming for through the Panama canal and making it back to Australia where they were from. I am pretty sure.. ZERO sailing experience from these two but BOY are they good at it.
This one I watched recently.. they are recording with an Iphone and I really would like them to turn it on their side or get another camera. I dont know. The cinematography is bad but I REALLY like both of them. Great couple and interesting adventure. 5 quick videos you could watch in an evening and they just started.
This guy made a boat load of money selling a software company or something.. bought a Catamaran and is sailing all over the place. High production value. He is a great captain and I enjoy watching him.
10. WhiteSpotPirates
My award for Best woman sailor goes to her. She is from Europe buys a REALLY beat up boat she calls Karl. Karl keeps trying to kick her ass but she perseveres. Lots of bad luck from buying a boat half a world away sight unseen. She is a champ in my book. I am WAY behing in watching her but I am mostly trying to do that so I can binge watch her and spend a couple days sailing (in my head while watching) with her.
11. Seadog Cooper
This guy made ONE video with his buddy. I STILL think it is the funniest video I have seen to date. They chemistry between these two friends is AWESOME. The captain is an optimist probably foolish guy his friend is a pessimistic sarcastic and VERY grounded person. The combo of these two is hilarious I have commented on their video AND emailed them. They havent produced anymore. I hate that these guys only made one video. So much potential here.
12. Guazutembo
This is a friend of a friend who is docked a mile east of me. If you are looking for a guy that circumnavigated all of Lake Erie (My Lake) here is a guy for you. That is why hey gets the add on my list. I am using his stuff as a real time cruising guide. I also look forward to meeting him this next season.
Great powerboat couple. She is probably the most fun I have seen in all the videos need a party? Add her. They are going to buy a Sailboat here soon.
14. Landi Boats
This guy is building a boat in his backyard in Baltimore. I cant stop watching him. JUST when you think he is going to stop working on the boat he kicks it in. He only has ONE board done (It is a 50 foot laminated Keelson) but you can see this guy is going to continue on.
The first youtube sailor I ever watched older guy who singlehanded his boat from California to Hawaii. This started me looking for a keelboat last year. If THAT guy can do it on THAT boat.. I need to look into this. The rest is history. Christian is largely responsible for who I am right now and what my 5-7 year plan is. Thank you Christian.
16. Monday Never
Another girl I REALLY like. Her husband is awesome to. Great fun adventures. They just started off but I thorougly enjoy watching their updates. They are super active on facebook too.
17. Adventure Adrift
Just started making videos. They are regulars of reddit too. 100% enjoyable a quick watch. Just another couple that I nod my head and go. "I cant wait to go crusing with my wife and meet all these couples" Just fun people.
18. SV Delos
Most of you know them. I am WAY behind on them. The others have kept me busy They are from a long line of cruising family. Their backstory is quite interesting and not what you would think. Reading that reinvigorated my interest in their videos as of late.
19. Cruising LeaLea
So that is my list and my reasons.. how about yours? What do you have?
